Working at 6:30

Hey everyone.  After the critique Raquel suggested we meet to help get the character consistent and we agreed the best way to do this was just to work on it in the same space with each other and help each other with our shots.  The mac lab opens up today at 6:30, so if anyone can work there at that time, it would be helpful.

Kuan's Blocking updated


Hi guys, here is the correction that I make and add. Please let me know what I should change for better.
I have question about the last post I had when she turned her head. I purposely cut out her nose a bit but I wasn't sure if that is a good idea. The reason I do that is because I don't want to her face/head placed at the center all the time. So please let me know what you all think.

Raquel's deadline

If you haven't checked your e-mail yet, Raquel sent out a message that basically says that we need to place our files in the andrew gordon folder by midnight tonight.  That leaves about 50 minutes for us to each get a playblast up there.

Animatic boards

I revised the animatic boards a little bit on the off chance that Raquel does want to show it tomorrow.  I didn't want to change anyone's work so I tried to preserve it as much as possible though for clarity and continuity issues I had to change a few (Especially Chris' since it was done in so different a style).  If you approve of the changes I'll put the new boards into the animatic.

I'm going to revise the animatic right now to try to make it a little more cohesive and clear and I'll try to post it up as soon as possible.

Blocking Progress

Here is some blocking progress, I am going to work on this after 118 around 9 so any notes before then would be great, the playblast cut off the film gate for some reason so ignore that

Here is my correction on my blocking. Please feel free to give me suggestions. I feel there are still some areas need to make some changes but I can't tell where is it.

I won't be in front of my computer for few hours. I need to go out to run some errands but I will check it as soon as I came back.

What to do with "guts"

Playing with different ideas for alternatives to the drink raising around "guts."  Here are a few rough ideas I've been trying.  If anyone has some feedback  for me or has a good idea I haven't thought of yet, I would welcome it. Myself, I'm tending towards developing option 1 or 2, the raise up in option 3 feels like it interrupts the increasing intensity of the shot.

She thrusts her drink forward rather than upward

She does another push in towards the camera

She raises up a bit before leaning back in to the camera

New blocking

Hey guys I was able to work on the blocking more. I worked on the hands and I also added in eye movement and eye brows. I've been trying to hunch her over more but it wasn't working. She is pretty much hunched over as much as I can go with out deforming the rig :/

Notes for chris

For your shot we discussed a few things

Overall the character feels too relaxed and needs to be tensed up a bit especially in the shoulders (almost like she is doing shrugs at gym think tension) This will help connect up the shots into feeling like the same character.

For the posture we were thinking it would connect up with the rest of our shots if she was more hunched over, for the way she moves we have in mind something along the lines of gorilla meets Igor from Frankenstein

The weight shift seems a bit too fast at the hips feels like it should be simplified

She should look sooner when she says the lines "marriage" also on that bit it might look better if she did more of an under or swoop over and craning motion

She looks down and away a bit too much it would be better that if you are going to have her look down that it was something that happened a little more quickly.

Watch both hands as they appear to be getting stuck in place in a few places especially in the "old age" part in the cup hand

The head feels disconnected with the body in terms of movement, also would be better if head tilting was used to accent certain bits more
Hey guys here's what I have so far let me know any changes again. I was thinking her non drinking hand comes up too slow and moving that up a tad....also that her drink hand it doing something odd after that.

We will give you some notes on what we discuss today, also Raquel is planning on showing 3 groups (ours is one of them) shots to pixar this Saturday so she wants our shots to have good solid blocking and our animatic cleaned up

Can't make it to class

Hey guy I'm sorry but I can't make it to class today. I'll post up what I have later in the day if you could crit it But one of my relatives had emergency surgery last night and I'm flying down to Oklahoma tomorrow but today I need to help my fiance because she is pretty broken up about it. Please let Raquel know and I also emailed her. Thanks!

Trying to simplify it like Raquel asked me to.  Still have to change the begginning to match Chris and the end to set up Kuan.  Also I'll be zooming in and adjusting the camera.

So I changed the blocking on the walk a bit and changed the end pose to better match up what cris is going for, any crits welcome and needed. Ill be working on this more tommorrow

Hey guys before we meet up on thursday I think it would be a good idea to think about ways to make our shots flow a bit better, not just with last pose matching first poses but also the way Agnes is going to move and her overall posture etc, also it would be a good idea to think about refining our camera placements so we have a nice eye trace on the cuts.

need Help!

Hey guys so I currently went to block in my first pose tonight but I lost the ability to use the All button on the UI cam for the rig. It can't seem to find the boTriggers script for it and when I type it in to update it won't work. Please help so I can' finish my blocking! I can't use the all button :/
Hey everyone! I just got the files and was able to set everything up! Awesome job with the models Anthony! Just gyi for the glass I messed with the sizing a little to make it work with Anges' hand better the scale is X: 27.958, Y: 36.754,  and Z: 27.958. Essentially I made the glass a little taller. I also just used a parent constraint and it works perfectly!

About the cup

I dont know if any of you have started blocking yet but we forgot to all have a common size on the cup transformation, I scaled mine to 26.3 which seems to be a good size so if you guys could also scale to the same size that would be great!

Enviornment is now complete

Ok so the environment is now done! I put it on the 129 server under team ulta file name Ulta packet, I can find a way to upload it online possibly sometime later today. It has all the textures etc, there are a few things that probably will be changed but for the most part everything is where it should be in the final render.

Animatic Unveiled

Here it is!  If anyone wants any changes I'll still be at this computer for the next couple hours.  Comment on this post or e-mail me before I leave and I'll change it up.  I'll upload it to the server before I head home.  Oh, and a little tip if anyone wants to post tests on this blog or for that matter any other blog to get feedback, upload it to Youtube first rather than to blogger and just embed it in your post.  It will be better quality and I'm guessing we all have programs to download the videos from youtube and go through it frame by frame.


The Animatic

I'll put together the animatic for tomorrow.  I'll post it and put it on the server before I leave school tonight.  Any clarifications, requests or words you want to make absolutely sure fall on specific poses in the boards that might not be obvious from just looking at them please comment here or e-mail me about them.

As for the model, I believe she is fully ready.  The head neck thing was fixed, albiet not in the way I expected it to be when I last posted, and overall the body is working, though as with all of the morpheus larger morphed rigs, the shoulder can be a little awkward to work with at times.   I'll bring the rig tomorrow for you all to try out and approve or ask for changes.

Hey guys sorry I didn't get this sooner but, I also did realize you were boarding out to the character much. I mainly boraded out body poisition with the words and broad actions. Work was hecktic this weekend and I barley had time to do this. I also did a rough ending as well let me know what you guys think
